LISTENING TO: Good Kid - No Time To Explain, with a bonus track of Panic! At The Disco - Nine In the Afternoon
It's been a goal of mine this year to even write about the smallest trips, which is why I'm happy that my day trip into New York City ended at a place I've been meaning to get to for the last few months. But I'm getting a head of myself (which seems to be a theme lately).
After my long weekend tourist trip last year, I was excited to run in for the day to see my good friend Anna, who just moved to a new apartment and had a day off. Our first stop of the day was brunch over at Nobody Told Me. It was a random stop (Anna had never been there either - we basically just chose it off Yelp and locality), but it was a good start. It reminded me a lot of 983 Bushwick Living Room (one of my favorite places in Brooklyn that has unfortunately gone to the great New York restaurant scene in the sky), with a lot of creative cocktails and just an overall good atmosphere. From there, we just wandered around the city a bit, stopping in the People's Garden outside the Cathedral of St. John since the weather was so nice (seriously, who expects 70 degree days in March?), before heading back towards Zabar's for much needed coffee and pastries.
And then we went back to her apartment and took a nap. We're old enough now that that's totally ok when paired with day drinking.
However! That much needed nap did lead into where we ended up for dinner - The Honey Well. Anyone who knows me knows that my Instagram reels are dis-proportionally favored towards food and cocktails (and therefore restaurant and bar recommendations), and they've been showing up in my feed for literal months. To find out that it's near Anna's apartment as well as a place she's also been meaning to eat at? Jackpot.
I'm not sure how you could ever be disappointed by an underground 70's themed cocktail lounge, but I am more than happy to say it was such a great experience. The food was amazing, their cocktail program was super creative (highly recommend their Hot Thotty, and not just for the name) and it was just a really good way to end the night.
I do have to say this is why I find myself in an Uber at an ungodly hour heading back to Penn Station as I write this, but no regrets. Sometimes you just have to end the night in the morning.
