and the last lights fade from the shore

LISTENING TO: The Offspring - Behind Your Walls (Acoustic) The theme for this year seems to be New York, apparently, which I don't mind at all. This time, however, that takes me to Mt. Tremper, to the former Mount Tremper Arts, for the wedding of a very close friend. Like last weekend, the drive up here was half the fun for me (even after battling a horrible sinus infection earlier this week) - there's just something about this neck of the woods that's both intimate and expanding at the same time, if that makes any sense at all. The property definitely gives that impression as well - a small garden in the midst of a wide open space where the ceremony and cocktail hour will take place, with additional buildings for the reception as well as where we're staying/everyone's getting ready. As seems to be the theme lately, the fact that this used to be a performing arts space reads just about everywhere on the property, which is kind of comforting to me at least. It gives...

I think it's strange you never knew

LISTENING TO: Bjonr - Fade Into You (feat. Tom Bailey) I can't believe how quickly this weekend went; although isn't that always how long holiday weekends feel? So much got packed into the last three days I'm pretty sure I'm about to pull a Sleeping Beauty for the rest of the week. We spent the rest of Sunday morning back in Windham - first at the Windham Local (another great converted building; you can tell the community is trying to bring their downtown back to life - in my opinion, it's totally working). We were able to snag a table inside for some great food and (in my case, at least), some much needed caffeine. From there it was up and over to the Vidbel Mountain Homestead, where we not only got to see some extremely cute goats, rabbits, and pigs, but an extremely angry llama. If we had had more time we probably would have stayed for a tour, but it was a great way to spend the morning, and the views from the farm were incredible. From there it was back to the ...

late night

LISTENING TO: ODESZA - Late Night It is way too early for me to be awake without coffee, so I find myself sunk under a blanket on a giant leather couch trying to pull my thoughts together... where were we again? oh yeah. dinner. So the one thing we forgot about in all the planning for this weekend was reservations, but that actually worked out in our favor last night. One of the places I had looked up when researching the area was Windham, NY, which is where we wandered over to in search of food last night, and we weren't disappointed. The Millrock Restaurant was right in town, a downtown that was so adorable I could have sworn it had just popped out of some sort of "small downtown" picture book. We were lucky enough to eat outside again, and overall just really had a good dinner. It was after dinner that we decided to walk around and were happily surprised to find ourselves directly across the street from Ze Windham Wine Bar. Not only was it located in a fantastically c...

LISTENING TO: Fleetwood Mac - The Chain Looking back at the end of yesterday's abrupt post (what can I say, it was a long day!), I figure I'll go into more detail about my current abode - The Barnhouse/Ski House. Like our friends over at The Starling , this is just a single property of many owned in the area by the same couple, but it's such a relaxing house. The space is extremely open and relaxing, with a lot of outdoor features (would it be a Ski House without it?), but with enough privacy so that the environment doesn't feel isolated. I wasn't kidding when I said this is probably one of the most photographic places I've ever been. We were able to take advantage of the porch and fire pit yesterday, and I have to say I'm looking forward to taking more advantage of that before the weekend is done. The cool thing about this area in the summer is that all of the little surrounding ski downs are pretty quiet this time of year. We made our way into Tannersvil...

I'm not this / I'm not done

LISTENING TO: fue mejor - Kali Uchis & SZA This is honestly one of the prettiest places I've ever been. If you had asked me for one place I didn't know I wanted to visit, Jewett, NY now tops that list. As I'm not a skiier, the area surrounding Hunter Mountain has never really been on my radar outside of knowing of it's existence, and yet as I write this, I'm completely surrounded by the mountains. The idea of a winter retreat in the summer is now something I mean to take full advantage of for future weekends away.  Everything is just so incredibly green. It makes you just want to take one really large breath, which is great with everything else going on in the world. Our story of this bachelorette trip actually begins in Beacon, NY of all places (another location I didn't know I would like being). Now I'm not usually a fan of the Metro North line, but as I was playing chauffeur for my friends, I was happily surprised heading up to Beacon to pick them up...
